The rate is not flat. $1.99 gets you about 34 coins per dollar; $99.99 gets you about 50. If you already know you will be back, the middle of the ladder is where it stops feeling expensive.
Opening the list, setting filters and seeing who is live costs nothing and does not need an account. Only the call itself draws on your balance.
